Moody Blue

Moody Blue

INQUIRE

Title: Moody Blue

Medium:  Oil on Reclaimed Wine Staves

Size: 56 x 35 Inches

Notes: This figure is one of a series called “Reclaimed”. The obvious connection is to the reclaimed wood, but it also has meaning to my personal life. When I started the series in 2018, I was reclaiming myself as I endured the challenges of divorce and rebuilding my individualism, my business and myself. As the series progressed, it became even more empowering for all women. The woman in Moody Blue sits confidently in her chair, moody, blue and sassy and unwilling to be pushed or influenced by the world around her. She is bold and her blue color vibrates off the background, creating an inspiring energy.

Another interesting feature is the type of wood that it is painted on. This particular wood was sourced in San Luis Obispo, CA and is made up of local wine staves used to add flavors such as oak to wine tanks as the wine ferments. The wood is dense and smooth and really nice to work with. It also features engraved letters that denote the age and type of wine as well as a few holes that were where the hook would hold the wood in the vat. If you look closely, you can find one that is shaped like a half heart.
